The silence was thick.
You could feel the sadness in the living room. My closest friends were watching the final minutes of the 2011 Green Bay Packers season. The game was long over. Fumbles, dropped passes and a leaky 3rd down defense resulted in one of the most disappointing losses in franchise history.
It was a strange feeling. The Packers team that took the field was not the team fans were used to seeing. This team lacked fundamentals, discipline and urgency. It was heartbreaking to see the home fans leave Lambeau Field.
The opponent, the New York Giants, played a great game. They earned the victory and for the Packers it's an entire off season of moving forward and getting better.
For the fans it is also time to move on.
Changing of the Seasons
For me, the end of each Packer season brings about a changing of the seasons.
For my entire life I have moved from season to season. My hobbies include hunting, watching the Packers and playing golf.
With the Packers season now over there are new things to look forward to and to experience. My Sunday afternoons will now be filled with writing and reading. For the next couple of months I'll be working on personal and professional projects on the weekends.
Once the snow melts I'll be spending more time on the golf course.

My personal goal on the golf course this summer is to get my putting average down to 28 putts per round. I would also like to improve my fairways and greens in regulation to 50%.
I have a ways to go on each of these goals. My current numbers are:
- Putts: 34.74
- Fairways: 33.2%
- Greens: 34%
The numbers have been improving, though. The putting number has improved pretty good over the last few months thanks to the purchase of a small indoor putting strip I have setup in the dining room.
Something else I'm looking forward to is a trip to San Diego. It'll be my first time visiting Southern California. It should be a nice break from the cold and the snow. Hopefully the sun is shining out West.
It was a sad ending to one season, but a bright hope for another.
I love the Green Bay Packers and can't wait until they get things started once again in August.
Until then, it's time to do some writing and find a few good golf courses to play.
